What we install

Trench drain work across King Township

King is estate and rural country. Long laneways, large lots, private septic and wells, and — on most properties — no municipal storm sewer at all. The outlet is the engineering, not the channel.

Install Process

How a trench drain goes in

Six on-site steps from the first cut to a flush, water-tight finish. Same sequence on every job — what changes is length, materials, and crew size.

  1. 01

    Plan & Mark

Marking the trench drain run across a garage opening
    • Identify water flow direction
    • Mark full drain run across the opening
    • Confirm outlet location and slope (~1%)
  2. 02

    Excavate Trench

Trench cut and excavated for the drain channel
    • Cut and remove concrete or asphalt
    • Trench wider and deeper than the channel
    • Maintain consistent slope toward the outlet
  3. 03

    Prepare Base

Compacted gravel base prepared for the channel
    • Add compacted gravel or concrete base
    • Set elevation using string line or laser
    • Base supports full channel length
  4. 04

    Install Channel

Channel sections set continuously across the trench
    • Place channel sections across full trench
    • Connect end-to-end with no gaps
    • Align slope and elevation across the run
  5. 05

    Concrete & Backfill

Concrete poured around the channel body
    • Pour concrete around both sides of channel
    • Maintain proper thickness and support
    • Finish surface flush with surrounding slab
  6. 06

    Grate & Finish

Grate installed and flush with the finished slab
    • Secure the grate into the channel
    • Ensure flush finish with the slab
    • Final check: water flows cleanly into drain

What King City homeowners say

Four hundred feet of laneway and no storm sewer within a kilometre. They caught the water in three places instead of one and built a proper soakaway.

King-specific

The Oak Ridges Moraine, private servicing, and Township approval

King Township sits substantially on the Oak Ridges Moraine, a provincially protected groundwater recharge area. Combined with widespread private servicing, that makes King jobs fundamentally different from a serviced suburban driveway.

Moraine rules

Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan

Much of King falls under the moraine plan, with land-use rules aimed at protecting groundwater recharge. Work that alters drainage or infiltration can require review a serviced suburban job would not attract.

Design work

No municipal storm sewer

On most King properties there is nothing to connect to. The drain discharges to a soakaway, dry well, or a surface outlet with genuine fall. Sizing that for your soil and catchment is the real work in the job.

Confirmed first

Septic beds and drilled wells

Estate properties have septic beds and wells that any discharge point must stay well clear of. We locate both before choosing an outlet, every time.

By-law restriction

Discharge to a septic system

Routing storm water into a septic tank or leaching bed falls outside how these systems are permitted to be used. It floods the system and destroys the field, converting a drainage nuisance into a major replacement cost.

Coverage

Response from our Richmond Hill base

King City is 20 to 30 minutes west of our Richmond Hill shop; Nobleton and Schomberg run a little further. Rural addresses take longer to reach than the map suggests, so we book realistic fixed windows.

Estate and rural jobs frequently run longer than a suburban install because the outlet must be excavated and built rather than connected. We tell you at the quote whether yours is a one-day or two-day job.

  • Drive time from HQ 20–35 min
  • Quote window Fixed slot
  • Typical estate install 1–2 days on site

FAQ

Common questions about trench drains in King City

There is no storm sewer on my road. Can I still get a trench drain?

Yes — it changes the design rather than ruling it out. Without a municipal outlet the drain discharges to a soakaway, dry well, or a surface outlet with real fall away from the buildings. Sizing that for your soil and the area draining to it is why rural quotes always follow a site visit.

Does the Oak Ridges Moraine stop drainage work in King?

Rarely. The moraine protects groundwater recharge, and infiltrating clean runoff on your own property supports that rather than working against it. What draws scrutiny is work that reduces recharge or exports clean water off the moraine. We confirm what applies to your specific parcel before quoting.

How far does the outlet have to be from my well and septic?

Well clear of both, with genuine separation. A discharge point near a well head is a contamination risk, and water routed toward a septic bed will destroy the leaching field. We locate the bed and the well before selecting an outlet — this is not a detail we estimate.

My laneway is very long. Is one drain at the bottom enough?

Usually not. A four-hundred-foot laneway delivers far more water to a single point than any one channel and outlet can comfortably take. On King properties we normally intercept at two or three points along the run so no single drain carries everything, which also means a blockage does not take the whole system out.

What does a King trench drain cost?

Estate and rural installs here often exceed the $1,800 to $4,500 band that applies on serviced suburban lots, because building an outlet costs more than connecting to one and the runs are longer. A long laneway with multiple intercepts and a purpose-built soakaway is a genuinely bigger job. We quote after seeing the property.

Will a soakaway work in my soil?

It depends, and moraine soils vary sharply over short distances. Sandy material infiltrates well; heavy clay does not, and a soakaway in clay will simply back up. Where infiltration will not perform we design a surface outlet with fall instead, and we tell you which one your land needs.

Can you handle a gravel laneway?

Yes. Gravel needs a proper edge detail so the surface does not migrate into the channel — that is the usual failure on a poorly specified gravel install. Straightforward when designed in, a persistent nuisance when it is not.

Do you cover Nobleton and Schomberg as well?

Yes, along with Kettleby, Pottageville, and the surrounding rural addresses. They are a little further out than King City, so we book generous fixed windows rather than tight ones we cannot hold.
